Despite the advancement in car security technology, motor vehicle theft remains a big problem in Australia. According to the NMVTRC (National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council), vehicle theft rates have increased by 7% between 2014/15 and 2015/16!
The Big Picture
Of the 54,000+ vehicle thefts in the 2015/16 year:
- 80% were passenger/light commercial vehicles;
- 15% were motorcycles; and
- 5% were classified as ‘other vehicles’ (such as heavy trucks and tractors).
That is one vehicle theft every 10 minutes! It’s staggering to know that nearly 30% of these vehicles were never recovered.
